Windows 7: Save WLAN configuration on USB stick - how it works
With Windows 7 you do not have to remember your WiFi password. You can conveniently transfer your configuration to a USB stick when you move to a new PC. We'll tell you how in this article.
WLAN configuration transferred to USB stick
All you need is a USB stick that is formatted with FAT-32. We have summarized for you how to format the stick correctly in another article.
- First, insert the USB stick into a port on your computer.
- Now you have to find your WLAN networks in the Control Panel. The easiest way to do this is to type "Manage Wireless Networks" into your Windows search. Then click on the result found.
- Now you can see all the WiFi networks you were connected to. Right-click on a WiFi network that you want to export. Illustrated instructions can also be found in the picture gallery.
- Now select Properties from the context menu. Now a window opens in which you will find the item "Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive" in the lower half. Click on the point and then press "Next".
- In addition to your network profile, a file called "setupSNK.exe" is now copied to the stick. If you want to transfer the WLAN profile to another PC, you just have to insert the stick and run this file.
