You can restore overwritten files in Windows 7 using on-board tools and thus save important content. We'll show you step by step.
Recover overwritten files on Windows 7
For example, if you edited a Word file and then accidentally saved it with "Save" instead of "Save As", you overwritten the original file. However, this can be quickly reversed:
- Right click on the overwritten file. Now select "Properties".
- In the "Properties" window that opens, select the "Previous versions" tab.
- After a short wait, all recoverable previous versions are displayed here. Select the version you need. If you are not sure, you can preview the respective version by clicking on "Open".
- Warning: If you choose "Restore", the most recent file version with your changes will be lost. Therefore, click "Copy" to keep both the original file and your edited file.
Here we show you how to recover deleted files.
