What is a stock ROM?
In connection with Android you often hear the term stock ROM in addition to custom ROM. We will explain the difference to you.
What is a ROM?

What is a stock ROM?
The stock ROM is the firmware that is played directly by the manufacturer on the smartphone. This is based on the Android source code of the respective Android version (e.g. Froyo, Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwitch, Jelly Bean, Kit Kat) and the modifications of the manufacturer (e.g. Sense at HTC, or TouchWiz at Samsung). When you buy a new smartphone, you always have a stock ROM installed.
Alternatively: Custom ROM
If you do not like the standard operating system on your Android, you can install so-called custom ROMs. These are modified Android versions that are not provided by the manufacturer, but mostly by private developers. These ROMs offer many advantages, but require root access. You can read what this is and how you can get it in this practical tip.
