iPhone / iPad: Delete "other" files - Here's how
Check the storage space of your iPhone or iPad, you will find the "Other" area. This cannot be deleted easily. Instead, you have to trick a little and use extra software to free up the storage space.
Delete the "Other" category on iPhone and iPad
The category "Other" under iOS is used storage space which is not exactly defined. Among other things, temporary files of individual apps are stored here. Unfortunately, the memory used cannot be completely deleted, but you can clear it with various tricks:
- Turn your iPhone or iPad completely off and then on again. This deletes temporary files and frees up a few MB of storage space.
- So that you really catch all temporary files, use the free software "PhoneClean". Install the tool and connect your iOS device to the computer. Then run a scan and remove any finds. You can find detailed instructions in our photo gallery.
- Alternatively, you can only delete the temporary data of individual apps. To do this, you must uninstall the programs and then download them again. In another article we will show you exactly how this works.
- If there is still space left in the "Other" category, you can delete individual e-mails and messages. Mails with large attachments in particular can consume a lot of memory. In contrast, only a small amount of memory is freed up for standard messages.
- Nevertheless, there is another culprit: A heavily used WhatsApp chat with lots of photos and videos also takes up a lot of storage space. You should save such histories by email and then delete them from the iPhone. Our video reveals how this works:
- If the memory under "Other" can no longer be reduced, you should set up your iOS device again. All data and apps are deleted so that the storage space is free again. You can import your personal files again via a backup.
