DMG files: why can't Windows open them?

Instructions: Open DMG file under Windows
- Even if you can't do anything with the DMG files under Windows, you still have the opportunity to take a look at the file. All you need is suitable software.
- The easiest way to gain insight is with the free 7-Zip software. If you don't want to install an additional program, use 7-Zip Portable. It is installed in a folder that you can then simply delete.
- Start 7-Zip and navigate to the file path of the DMG file. If you select the DMG file, you can take a look at the inner folder structure. If you drag individual files or folders onto your desktop, the files are extracted.
