Encrypting your own WiFi is one of the most important points for your home network. This practical tip will tell you whether you should use AES or TKIP.
AES or TKIP? Only one offers the greatest possible security
Current routers offer a variety of encryption options for your WLAN connection. Here is a small overview:
- To best protect your network, you should always use WPA2 with AES as encryption. This is the latest encryption standard.
- If you still have old devices that do not support the WPA2 standard, we recommend that you set your router to 'Mixed-Mode' by TKIP + AES. However, not every router supports this.
- In any case, avoid WEP or TKIP encryption as much as possible. Both are considered out of date and are therefore no longer safe.
